The municipalities of Sint-Michielsgestel, Vught, Heusden and 's-Hertogenbosch together with foundation de Groene Vesting have the joint ambition to make the Linie 1629 or the Defense Line more visible and perceptible and give it a structured significance in the development of the landscape. De Linie 1629 is located at some distance from the center of 's-Hertogenbosch and runs through the outer area of the four municipalities. It is a great piece of engineering and part of the military machine, which played a crucial role in the Battle of 1629, in which Frederik Hendrik liberated 's-Hertogenbosch from the Spaniards. With this, the defense line is inextricably linked to the Fortress of 's-Hertogenbosch; attack and defense works. By the analogy of the development vision for the fortifications of the city 'Reinforced Den Bosch', the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch commissioned a 'Linie book'(Feddes / Olthof; 2014), in which the development vision for De Linie 1629 is defined as a key element in within the landscape. The municipalities of Sint Michielsgestel, Vught, Heusden and 's-Hertogenbosch endorse the ambition of the Linie Book and will develop and materialize it further. To this end they commissioned MTD landscape architects / urban designers to draw up a development and implementation plan, based on individual projects which can subsequently be worked out, prioritized and realized.
