- draw atlas of ambitions and the area vision with implementation program
In 2007 MTD landschapsarchitecten was commissioned by the abovementioned parties to draw up an area concept for the landscape park Oosterhout - Breda. The main purpose of the area concept is the drawing up of an integral and sustainable landscaping plan for the planning area, which determines the starting points for the desired future spatial layout and the outlines for ground usage in the long term, including a nuanced phasing and decisive implementation schedule. In addition, the creating of support amongst the cooperating parties plays an important role in the planning process of the set objectives.
The first strategic aim of the area concept is to boost the ecology (planet), economic development (profit), and the liveability (people) of the landscape park Oosterhout - Breda, individually as well as in their mutual coherence; it involves the realisation of an ideal balance of the developments for the landscape park as a whole.
Within the landscape park there are large woodlands of the Vrachelseheide and the forest district of Dorst, as well as natural wet pearls like the low Vuchtpolder. The aim of the area concept is to improve the coherence between these individual biotopes and to this end, to minimize the barrier effect of the A27 and other provincial roads. In addition, new structural elements will be introduced perpendicular to these infrastructure lines meant as an ecological connection for a proper ‘guidance’ of animals. Hence the present landscape entities will significantly increase in value and importance.
The strategic aim of the area concept is focused on the introduction of economic carriers for the landscape park in order to bring about a sustainable functioning. Here a perspective is offered for the agricultural sector, perhaps in combination with nature and landscape management. In addition, the area concept provides some tips for a qualitative boost for the recreative sector, where the recreationist is a ‘visitor’ in the landscape. In landscape park Oosterhout - Breda, while making use of the landscaping park route amongst other things, city residents can stroll and cycle through the vast woodlands, characteristic culture landscapes and panoramic polder landscapes, and along the military legacy of the defences which surround Breda.
